Things can never calm down in the topsy-turvy world of Tennis now, can they? Recently, the tennis industry got hit by a thunderbolt of news that has left everyone stunned. The young American sensation Coco Gauff who had an up and down last season, has made a shocking decision as she has parted ways with her coach Brad Gilbert.

The 20-year-old tennis player has parted ways Gilbert after just 14 months together for unknown reasons. The news left the tennis fans in utter shock as they did not know what would be Gauff’s next move. Many do not know but Gauff’s previous coach was a former pro who decided to join her camp in July 2023 as a consultant. And they later decided to hire Gilbert as her full-time coach in November. But things clearly did not go as planned.

Their time together had Gauff flying over the moon. The tennis player was thriving after achieving her first Grand Slam title at the US Open last year. However, their split comes on the heels of a mediocre 2024 season for Gauff. One would think that Gilbert would be resting at home after a hectic year right? No, because another thing just unfolded itself and the fans got to know that Gauff’s former coach Gilbert is now reportedly in the process of joining forces with tennis superstar Alycia Parks. Yes, you read that right. The latest post on X by a tennis YouTuber named Christian’s Court revealed the news and the caption read, “Following his split with Coco Gauff, Brad Gilbert is reportedly in talks of potentially working with Alycia Parks per @Just2Tennis”. 

 

The tension between Gauff and Gilbert was visible during their time together and let’s not forget that verbal exchange at Wimbledon, but no one would’ve thought that it would result in this. This isn’t the first time they’ve parted ways as Gilbert briefly left to train actress Zendaya for a movie earlier this year. Gauff’s struggles this season were pretty evident if you ask us. With early exits at the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Masters the tennis player was struggling to maintain her gameplay. But, some of you may have seen this coming as Gilbert was seen praising Parks’s game every now and then.

Brad Gilbert would ‘love to see’ Alycia Parks succeed

Fans have witnessed Brad Gilbert praising Alycia Parks numerous times now so it wasn’t a surprise to many when he decided to join forces with the tennis player. Gilbert had applauded Parks for her remarkable rise through the ranks in 2023 which helped culminate her break into the Top 50 of the WTA rankings. “Love to see somebody that wasn’t on people’s radar a few years ago doing what she (Alycia Parks) is doing,” said Gilbert, per an episode of the Craig Shapiro Tennis Podcast. However, Gilbert also mentioned that success comes with its fair share of challenges and it was up to the young tennis if she can tackle them or not.

“Now she’s (No.) 50 in the world, now she’s on people’s radar, now can she make that next leap? That’s the beauty of tennis, the beauty of sports. She wasn’t on the radar, now people know what she’s doing. Can she get better from here?”. Now the irony is that the betterment of Parks’s skills is all in the hands of Gilbert.
